INGREDIENTS:
2 large chopped Tomatoes
1/2 tsp tamarind paste
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
2 tbsp rasam powder (MTR rasam powder works great)
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
salt to taste
3 cups water
4-5 frozen vadas ( Udupi or Deep brand small medhu vadas)
DIRECTIONS:
Warm some ghee in a large pot and add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
When mustard splutters, Add chopped tomatoes and stir a while until they are mushy
Add Tamarind paste, jaggery, salt, turmeric and boil for a few minutes
Add Rasam powder, black pepper powder, a little more ghee, boil for a few minutes.
Adjust spices so that the rasam is tangy and spicy as the vada will absorb a lot of it.
Add the frozen vada and the chopped cilantro, bring to boil and turn off the heat right away.
Ladle each vada into a bowl with some amount of rasam and top with ghee before serving.
